journalism & Communication Studies

School of Communication (SOC) of the Manipal University was established in 1997. The communication education in the Institute covers journalism (print, radio, television and new media), film studies, public relations, advertising, corporate communication along with many other related subjects.

Courses Offered

BA Journalism & Communication Studies

Duration: 3 years undergraduate programme spread across 6 semesters.

The under-graduate program in Journalism and Communication Studies is specifically designed to meet the requirements of the futuristic media scene. Beginning 2000, the institute cradled a unique integrated course in media studies combined with the right blend of computer application skills as well as providing a firm background in social, behavioural and policy sciences.

MA Communication

Duration: 2 year post-graduate programme spread across 4 semesters

The post-graduate programme introduces students to all streams of communication in the first two semesters and facilitates them to specialise later in Broadcast Media/ Communication Management/ Print and New Media/ Film Studies. The students are trained in all aspects of media through rigorous assignments/ projects demanding high competency to create, produce and present content for different media meeting rigid deadlines and professional standards.

Dual Degree Masters Program in Film Art and Filmmaking

Partner Institutions: Manipal Institute of Communication, Manipal University, Manipal, India & EICAR – The International Film & Television School, Paris, France

The common goal of this program is to prepare students to find employment in one of the five major disciplines – directing, production, editing, cinematography, screenwriting – of audio-visual production, whether it be film, television or new media.

PG Diploma In Corporate Communication

Duration: One-year PG Diploma in Corporate Communication spread across 2 semesters.

The course is designed to suit the industry requirements and has a potential to place students in the vibrant PR industry and the corporate communication departments of various other industries

Admission Process

The admission process for above mentioned programmes is based on an all-India entrance test. In case of post-graduate programmes, it is also accompanied by group discussion and interview.
